In Laura Cifra-Bean, MD, Co-Chair, and NDSC
Professional Advisory Committee’s article “Current Research in Down Syndrome”
they talk about new research that has been done about Down Syndrome. Down syndrome is a genetic disorder when you have an extra copy
of chromosome 21. The article goes more in
depth about different diseases, how those dieases can effect down syndrome, and how they
are more common with people that have the disorder. Alzheimer disease is one common
disease that older people with down syndrome have. It talks about different
treatments, enzymes, and the biology done to figure out these new things. All
this new research is going to help us in the future and patients with down
syndrome will “be healthier, function better and have a better quality of life.”
